Three Interconnected Pillars

The RuVal Foundation stands on three interconnected pillars: Storytelling, Education, and Family Development. Through documentary storytelling, we preserve African American heritage and give voice to the unsung heroes whose stories shape our community's legacy. Through HBCU scholarships, we equip the next generation to carry that legacy forward. And through family development workshops, we strengthen the households where heritage takes root and future leaders are formed. Together, these pillars work as one: honoring the past, investing in the future, and building strong families in between.

We deliver evidence-based, culturally responsive parenting and teen development workshops that strengthen families, build resilience, and equip parents and young people with the skills they need to thrive.

We provide financial support to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, removing barriers to education and empowering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

We produce and distribute short-form documentary films that capture the remarkable achievements of African Americans across all fields and generations, so these stories reach audiences today and endure for generations to come.

History is not just about remembering.

Why it Matters

It's about understanding who we are and imagining who we can become. When young people see themselves reflected in stories of achievement and resilience, they discover what's possible. When they receive the financial support to pursue higher education, they gain the tools to write their own chapters in that ongoing story. And when families are strengthened with knowledge, skills, and community support, they create the foundation upon which all success is built.

Legacy Begins with Learning

Education remains one of the most powerful tools for change in the African American community. For generations, access to quality education was denied, delayed, or made harder to reach, and the effects of that gap still show up today in college enrollment, graduation rates, and economic mobility. HBCUs have long stood as a response to that gap, producing doctors, engineers, educators, and leaders who might otherwise have been overlooked. The RuVal Foundation invests in that legacy through scholarships that remove financial barriers and open doors to HBCU education. Because when one student earns a degree, the impact rarely stops with them. It reaches back to lift a family and forward to inspire the next one.

Strong families are the cornerstone of thriving communities

Research consistently demonstrates that strong parent-child relationships, effective communication skills, and positive family environments significantly improve academic outcomes, reduce risky behaviors, and build resilience.

Strong families are the cornerstone of thriving communities, yet many African American families face unique challenges with limited access to culturally responsive support. Parents carry the dual responsibility of raising confident children while preparing them to face discrimination and systemic barriers, often without affordable, evidence-based parenting programs that honor African American cultural strengths and traditions. Teens, meanwhile, need guidance navigating identity formation, peer pressure, academic demands, and the road to adulthood. The COVID-19 pandemic only intensified family stress and exposed critical gaps in accessible mental health and family wellness resources. Too often, traditional family support programs fail to address the specific experiences, values, and resilience strategies that define African American families. The RuVal Foundation exists to close that gap.

Living Among Greatness is a short-form documentary series celebrating unsung heroes in the African American community, capturing achievement and resilience so their stories reach today's audiences and endure for generations to come. Founded and produced by Rubin Cuffee, the series shines a light on everyday people whose contributions have shaped their families, churches, and communities but rarely made the history books. Each episode preserves a piece of that legacy on film, turning quiet acts of courage and perseverance into stories the next generation can watch, learn from, and carry forward. Living Among Greatness is more than a documentary series. It's how the RuVal Foundation keeps the past alive so it can keep shaping the future.
